Have you ever forgotten the password for your IP camera? It can be a frustrating experience and often leads to significant problems. In this article, we provide some tips on how to recover the password for your IP camera.
How to recover the password for an IP camera?
Pressing and holding the reset button for a few seconds will restore the camera to its factory settings. You will then need to initialize the camera using the appropriate software or recorder from the same manufacturer. For Hikvision IP cameras, you can also use the SADP (Search Active Devices Protocol) program, which includes a “forgot password” feature.
This feature generates a file that you can send to the manufacturer’s service center, and they will send you a modified file that clears the password. Dahua cameras operate similarly with the Config Tool software.
For these cameras, if they are associated with the DMSS application, you can also log in to the camera using a computer and select the “forgot password” option. A list of default passwords with IP addresses can also be found on the website https://www.ispyconnect.com/userguide-default-passwords.aspx. For many cameras, you can obtain a password valid for one day.
Simply provide the device’s serial number, and the service center of the respective company can generate a password valid for that day. This option allows you to change the password.

How to recover the password for a WiFi IP camera?
The password for a WiFi IP camera can only be reset. Similar to wired IP cameras, WiFi cameras also have a reset button, which is usually located near the SD card slot. It is often hidden under a cover on the bottom of bullet-type cameras or inside the housing for dome cameras.
You can also reset the camera using dedicated software provided by the camera manufacturer.
Resetting an IP camera without a reset button
You can perform a camera reset through the camera’s web browser interface or factory software by selecting the “reset to default” function.
After this process, all previous camera settings, including the password, will be changed to factory defaults.
How to reset a surveillance recorder?
To reset a surveillance recorder, you can use the “reset to factory settings” function within the recorder’s menu. If you have forgotten the password, you can perform a reset using dedicated software or a password generated by the manufacturer. Resetting can also be done on the motherboard of the recorder.
How to crack a camera password?
If you are the owner of the camera, there is no need to crack the password.
Simply reset the camera using the reset button or dedicated software.
Default password for Hikvision cameras
Newer Hikvision cameras do not have a default password.
You set the password yourself during the camera initialization process using the SADP program or a Hikvision IP recorder. However, older models had default passwords such as:

Newer Dahua IPC cameras do not have a default password.
